Some people have been known to shell out hundreds for limited edition versions of the soy sauce's packaging.
Kikkoman's soy sauce is a staple in many homes and restaurants.
The company has sold more than 400 million of the sauce bottles, which date back to 1961.
Industrial designer Kenji Ekuan took three years to develop the bottle, working through about 100 prototypes before finalizing the design we've come to know today.
Most people will scoop up a bottle for a few dollars during a grocery trip.

But some are willing to shell out hundreds for one of the coveted limited edition bottle designs.
Kikkoman has released different versions of the mainstay bottle throughout the years, including at least one edition featuring Hello Kitty.
That version is currently listed on eBay for nearly $100.
Meanwhile, an empty bicentennial Kikkoman bottle is for sale on the site for $200.

Other bottles are known to sell for $300 or more, according to Eater.
These bottles have become collectors items and, because they were sold for a limited time or were a special release, people are willing to pay to add them to their shelves.
Steve Ketcham, the former president of the Federation of Historical Bottle Collectors, told Eater that rare bottles are "on everyone’s radar."
“Collectors also seek out beauty,” Ketcham explained.
“Eye-pleasing pieces may have a great visual appeal from either color or form.
"A vibrant green cathedral pickle bottle or a bright blue fruit jar can often be favorite food bottles among collectors.
"In most bottle collecting categories, color is of great importance.”
But even if you don't currently have a limited edition bottle on your shelf, the one you do have is worth saving.
