Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford thanks Cristiano Ronaldo for free Nike trainers

MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford has thanked Cristiano Ronaldo for sending him a pair of free trainers.

The Real Madrid icon and long-time Nike athlete has helped produce a special edition of the popular Air Max 97 CR7.

And the Portuguese ace sent a pair to the Old Trafford striker who is apparently considering his future over a lack of Premier League starts under Jose Mourinho.

The England starlet kept the thank-you note short and sweet, simply posting on Instagram: “Thanks for the gift”.

Rashford scored both goals in United's 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford last month.

But he is said to have been irked that he was not given a starting berth for United's incredible comeback against City on Saturday.

Rashford was named as a substitute but only came on for Alexis Sanchez with eight minutes to go, after Paul Pogba had netted twice as United overturned a two-goal deficit to win 3-2.

While only Romelu Lukaku has played more than the 43 games the England international has started for his club, just 22 of those have come from the beginning of games.

Sanchez's arrival in January has further limited Rashford's chances to play.

In the 12 games since Sanchez made his debut in the FA Cup win over Yeovil on January 2, Rashford has started just twice.

Mourinho recently defended his use of the academy graduate, he said: "I try to give the best to him.

“If you go to his numbers and see how many matches he played last season and this with me, I would say he's in the top five players with matches in the two seasons.”
