See the Rustic Hut Where Prince William Proposed
The hills are alive with the sound of romance!
Newly released photos reveal the unlikely site of Prince William's October 20 proposal to Kate Middleton: at one of Kenya's stark Rutundu Log Cabins near Lake Rutundu on Africa's second highest peak. With no electricity, the couple, both 28, celebrated their engagement by a roaring fire.
When the two departed the next day, each signed the guest book.
"Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours! Sadly no fish to be found but we had great fun trying. I love the warm fires and candle lights — so romantic! Hope to be back again soon" Kate wrote before signing, "Catherine Middleton."
William, who had stayed at the cabins before, inscribed, "Such fun to be back! Brought more clothes this time! Looked after so well. Thanks you guys! Look forward to next time, soon I hope."
As William explained at Tuesday's official engagement announcement, they were vacationing with friends in Mount Kenya. "We had some private time…and I thought it was just the right time," William said.

The picturesque countryside also helped William summon the courage. "It was beautiful, so I had done a bit of planning to show my romantic side."
His future bride chimed in: "It was romantic. There's a romantic in there."
